General Location: Northern VT
International/State: Vermont
Other Mushrooms: Chanti's, Lobsters
General Information: Had 5 days in july that were over 90 degrees, really put a strain on our chanterelles. The spot i checked today had loads more than last year but i had to leave literally hundreds of dried up bad ones. Lobsters didnt seem to be phased at all by the heat wave. We are in need of a soaker, doesnt look like its going to happen any time soon. We are just happy june was so wet to balance our current heat/lack of rain.

Other Mushrooms: Cinnabars, Old Mans, Trumpets
General Information: What a great weekend for me! After the Saturday WMS booth was packed up, I headed to the woods and found so many cinnabars I couldn't believe it! I really don't think they have much flavor but they are just so beautiful, I love to find them. That little woods I was in was just rich with fungus and I didn't want to leave but you know, night happens. I didn't find any chanterelles (which I don't like anyway) or hedgehogs but I did come away with a few trumpets, a few old man of the woods and of course a bunch of cinnabars!

Other Mushrooms: hedgehogs
General Information: My first year too, and it is addicting. Can't help but look for mushrooms wherever i go now. stopped and got a few more hedgehogs after work last night, my wife has finally decided to try incorporating them into a meal, since i've been eating them for a couple of weeks now with no apparent ill effects. i suppose i'd better go get a few more today then. if i keep finding them, maybe i will have to trade. although i'm worried that someone else is going to find my goldmine.

General Information: Well I climbed my way back to the top of Cordy Hill (aka Chanty Hill) and was nicely rewarded with a fresh flush of Common Chants. But I had to work for them! They were in and under the thickest briars you ever wanna see. But with the walking stick and some patience, all were retrieved nicely. By the way, Cordy Hill is the tallest, steepest hill on my property and is so named because the fellow I caught trespassing on it when I first moved in was so named.

Other Mushrooms: oyster, sulfer shelf, brick cap, meadow mushroom
General Information: Lincoln MA - Road Side at the base of a oak tree - about 18 inches across and 10 inches high. I think it is a Laetiporus persicinis but I am not sure. I read that they were edible. Appeared at the same place last year.
Chris' Comments: No, not persicinus, probably black stainer or Berkeley's, bot are edible

General Information: Can someone tell me what this is? I know it's not chicken of the wood because it's not orange/yellow but don't know what else it is. It's white underneath. Fronds are very soft and plyable.
Chris' Comments: If it stains underneath, then it is a Black staining Polypore, delicious, if not, it is still delicious- a Berkeley's Polypore...

Other Mushrooms: lobsters, chanterelles, lactarius
General Information: The recent rain brought out the lobsters and chanterelles in full force. There were many large lobsters and more smooth chanterelles than I could possibly carry home. I didn't even bother with half of them. A few nice lactarius, but no fresh boletes yet

General Information: The rain brought up some nice things: many chanterelles (cibarius, lateritius, appalachiensis, cinnibarinus, persicinus), hedgehogs, boletus bicolor, and lactarius hygrophoroides. We also saw many ornate stalk boletes, which tend to be bitter around here

Other Mushrooms: Boletes
General Information: Hi,I found these after the rains in my back yard under a pine tree coming through the pine straw. They left a brown spore print and the top tastes slightly sweet raw. Not sure if they are kings, am pretty sure they are edible... please comment. Thanks!
Chris' Comments: Sorry, King Boletes don't grow this far south. These appear to be a common "Bitter Bolete", just too bitter to consume.

General Information: Hey ya Everybody! I went out tonight for a couple hours (I guess there was a tornado somewhere but I couldn't see it so I continued on) and found what I really hope to be oysters. The thing is, the downed tree appears to be a shagbark hickory, not a maple. Please look at these pics and tell what you all think. I rarely find oysters and when I do, I'm always a bit afraid that they really aren't so I don't take them.
Chris' Comments: These are Oysters!

Other Mushrooms: black trumpets
General Information: Found lots of black trumpets - a full 7 weeks earlier than last year. Some are even too 'old' to pick. I don't think it is full season yet as some spots I didn't see any yet- but the sunniest places were chock full - mossy/dappled sunlight/old growth near a stream was where I found the most
